John L. Salata, Jr. - Owner / Director - The Salata Gurnee Funeral Home
He will be missed. (April 1, 1939 - January 11, 2007). John and Loretta (nee Therry), born in Waukegan, IL, were long time sweethearts; having gone thru grade school, high school and marrying in 1961. They have endured a 63 year relationship. They have four children, Christine, Bonnie, John III and Katie. Both John III and Katie are licensed funeral directors.
The Salata Gurnee Funeral Home traces its roots back, deep into the 20th century, when our family owned facility was dedicated. Many years later, this location has seen changes, but has always been and will continue to be an integral part of this community. Over the years, the original mission of the firm hasn't changed. We have always intended to provide the best, most professional services, complemented by the finest products. John L. Salata, III - Licensed Funeral Director - The Salata Gurnee Funeral Home
As a young man, John grew up assisting his parents in the day-to-day operations of the firm. After graduating from Loyola University and the Worsham College of Mortuary Science, John later officially joined the family business and has made a strong commitment to serving the families of Lake County Illinois...and it shows through his many years of dedicated service at The Salata Gurnee Funeral Home. As a Salata Gurnee Funeral Home director, John is responsible for preparing, managing and conducting funerals to the highest standard in a responsible and professional manner. He co-ordinates the funeral by ensuring the correct number of staff are available to perform the funeral, brief staff on the proceedings and ensure all requirements of the family are met. He also has key responsibilities leading up to the day of the funeral while keeping in close contact with families to ensure they are comfortable and confident about what will happen on the day of the funeral.

Charlie - Parking Lot Attendant / Loving Mascot - The Salata Gurnee Funeral Home
Responsibilities include: Keep parking areas clean and orderly to ensure that space usage is maximized. Direct motorists to parking areas or parking spaces, using hand signals or flashlights as necessary. Patrol parking areas in order to prevent vehicle damage and vehicle or property thefts. Park and retrieve automobiles for customers in parking lots. Greet customers and open their car doors. Issue ticket stubs, or place numbered tags on windshields, and give customers matching tags for locating parked vehicles. Lift, position, and remove barricades in order to open or close parking areas. Escort customers to their vehicles in order to ensure their safety. Please note: Charlie is not really a parking attendant...but he is a much loved family member and for over 8 years, he bring us companionship, love and fun.
